Frequently Asked Questions:

What to expect on your first visit!
Do I use ICE or HEAT?
What kind of insurance do you accept?

What to expect on your first visit:

Consultation. The doctor will ask you questions regarding your pain/discomfort or overall health to see if you are a candidate for chiropractic care. They need to know this information in order to completely understand your condition. Some of the questions they may ask are: How did this condition start? What makes it feel better? What makes it feel worse? How long have you felt like this?

Examination. If the doctor feels you would benefit from chiropractic care he will then perform a physical examination. This will include a series of tests on the musculoskeletal system as well as the nervous system. After this you may be asked to have x-rays taken to look at the spine.

Report of Findings. On your second visit the doctor will go over your x-rays with you and show you what he found looking at your spine. He then will discuss with you the diagnosis. A treatment plan (how many visits it may take to help correct your spinal condition) will be discussed.

Do I use ICE or HEAT??

After you have an injury like a twisted ankle, a low back strain or sprain, or even a pulled muscle, the inflammatory process begins and lasts for about 24-72 hours. During that time ice would be used. You would apply it for 10-20 minutes at a time. This would be done as often as necessary. It is also good to follow the R.I.C.E. rule

R=rest
I=ice
C=compression (ace bandage wrap or something similar)
E=elevation

**NEVER APPLY ICE DIRECTLY ON THE SKIN!!!!! WRAP THE ICE PACK IN A TOWEL THEN PLACE OVER THE INJURED AREA. If you do not have an ice pack you can substitute a bag of frozen peas or other small, round vegetable..

Once the swelling or inflammation has gone down, then you can apply heat. Moist heat is preferred over a dry heat as to not dehydrate the muscles. Typically moist heat is applied for 20-30 minutes at a time. Always ask your doctor which modality or therapy would be best for you if you are not sure.
